| Description |
English: Congaree National Park in central South Carolina is the largest expanse of old growth bottomland hardwood forest in the southeastern United States. The Congaree and Wateree Rivers flood the forest nourishing this ecosystem. The park was established in 2003 after a decades long local effort to stop cypress logging in the Congaree swampland that had been underway for the first half of the 20th century. |
