Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Rue Charlemagne, la Porte du Barry (11ème - 12ème siècles)

Charlemagne Street, Barry Gate (11th - 12th centuries). In the background, the abbey church of Sainte-Foy (French National heritage, 1840) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conques

On the steep Charlemagne Street, the Barry Gate (faubourg, suburb, in Occitan) is a powerful Romanesque red sandstone arcade. Called again in 1907 rue de la Caneyra (activities related to hemp), this route was used in the Middle Ages by pilgrims who left Conques in the direction of Santiago de Compostela via the Quercy. The street still connects the courtyard of the abbey church to the «roman» bridge of Conques.
