The Mellette County Conservation District joined the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) for an entry in the Frontier Days Parade in White River, S.D. The Frontier Days event is held annually in August complete with events such as a ranch rodeo, mutton busting, mini-saddle bronc riding, regular rodeo competitions as well as the infamous wild horse race. Community dinners and dances offer a social platform for friends and family. The Saturday parade theme of "Every Day is Independence Day" formed the idea for the district and NRCS employees to build their float entry of "Your Conservation Freedom: Every Day is Independence Day. Healthy SOIL is the ROOT to your SUCCESS!" The NRCS and local conservation districts work hand-in-hand with people to help them help the land and other natural resources to be more healthy and productive.
