Summary[edit]
Collection privéeEnglish: An ornate Neo-Gothic bracket supporting a sculptured dragon in solid iron. A hand crafted signature is evident, engraved into the iron as « Pre (Pierre) Boulanger Ferronnier (blacksmith) » This Blacksmith (1813 – 1891, source Wikipedia) is renound to have worked on major projects all over France during his time including the hinges of the main doors of Notre – Dame of Paris. It was Viollet le Duc, a famous french architect, known for his sensitive medieval restorations and a major Gothic revival archtect that commissioned Boulanger for some of his work. We can only suppose that this piece was created as a support base for a sign, or a large lantern or possibly just as a décorative sculptural pièce highlighting the dragon as the main symbol. The dimensions are : length 110 cm , height 132 cm , weight 60 kg (size and weight of original support as seen in the photos below) |
