Pasta extruder with automatic spreader for producing long cut pasta products, such as spaghetti.

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Pasta extruder with automatic spreader for producing long cut pasta products, such as spaghetti. Designed by Joseph DeFrancisci and built circa 1945 by Consolidated Macaroni Machine Corporation, 156 Sixth Street, Brooklyn, New York.

This setup shows the automatic spreader (foreground) on a pasta extruder (background) instead of a hydraulic press, making a truly continuous system for making spaghetti. The spreader placed the spaghetti on a stick for drying, and cut it to the proper length. The stick with spaghetti hanging on it was then transferred to a dryer. The key to this technology was a long rectangular die instead of a round die, so that spaghetti was placed directly on a stick, instead of done manually. The bottom shows a conveyor for trim recycling after the spaghetti was cut to length. The left shows a tube with a blower for returning the trimmed ends back into the mixer on the extruder, so there was no waste.

This machine shows the technology of the time for continuous automatic production of long cut pasta.
