Description
Nederlands: De tabak werd in deze kokers beschermd tegen verkruimeling. Het natuurlijke tussenschot in het bamboe diende als bodem. De koker werd aan de bovenkant afgesloten met een propje bladeren, bast of ander plantaardig materiaal. De tabakskoker werd meegedragen in een tas of simpelweg onder de arm. Volgens Greub, Art of Northwest New Guinea (1995: 125) werd dit object door alle dorpelingen veelvuldig gebruikt. Van der Sande merkt op dat het alleen de mannen waren die de tabakskokers meedroegen (Nova Guinea Vol. III, 1907: 17). Het roken van een zelfgemaakte sigaar van palmblad en tabak was een delicatesse voor de bewoners van het Sentanimeergebied (Nova Guinea Vol. III, 1907: 17).
