English: The Corderie Royale and its fountain in Rochefort, France, as seen from south. When this rope factory was built in 1666, it was the longest building in Europe. The obvious tilt and partial distortion of the buildings are due to the movement of the buildings in the swampy ground they were built on.
Français : La Corderie Royale de Rochefort vue du sud, avec sa fontaine. Lors de sa construction, en 1666, la corderie royale était le plus long bâtiment d'Europe. L'inclinaison des bâtiments est due à leur enfoncement partiel dans le sol marécageux. |
