Summary[edit]

Description
English: Built in 1930, this five-story Art Deco-style building was constructed to house the Courier-Express, a local newspaper, which folded in 1982 after being acquired by the Minneapolis-based Cowles Media Company in 1979, which did not see the value in keeping the paper operational, leaving Buffalo with only one daily newspaper. After the closure of the paper, it became home to the Catholic Center of Buffalo in 1985, housing various Catholic Church-affiliated social services and offices. The building is clad in tan terra cotta with many decorative Art Deco friezes and spandrel panels, trapezoidal window openings, steel windows, a stone base, a low-slope roof enclosed by a parapet, flagpoles between the second and third floor windows at the north and south ends of the west facade, decorative bronze panels above the main entrance at the north end of the west facade, pilasters between the windows at the heavily detailed sections of the west and south facades, and a shorter, simpler four-story rear wing to the east with larger window openings. The building today continues to house the Catholic Center of Buffalo, being located in a key location across from the St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, the oldest of the parishes in the Buffalo Roman Catholic Diocese.
