Description
Português: A ideia da construção do Monumento a Cristo Rei surge em 1934, aquando de uma visita ao Brasil do então Cardeal Patriarca de Lisboa, D. Manuel Gonçalves Cerejeira. Ao passar pelo Rio de Janeiro, viu a imponente imagem de Cristo Redentor do Corcovado e logo no seu coração nasceu o desejo de construir semelhante obra em frente a Lisboa. Em 1936, a ideia de construir o Monumento a Cristo Rei foi transmitida ao “Apostolado de Oração”, que a acolheu entusiasticamente. Para ser Nacional, o Monumento precisava de aprovação e cooperação de todos os Bispos Portugueses. Tal sensibilização aos Bispos é conseguida, sendo proclamada oficialmente na Pastoral Colectiva da Quaresma de 1937.
English: The idea of building the monument to Christ the King comes in 1934, during a visit to Brazil by then Cardinal Patriarch of Lisbon, D. Manuel Gonçalves Cherry. Passing through Rio de Janeiro, saw the imposing image of Christ the Redeemer on Corcovado and soon his heart was born the desire to build a similar project in front of Lisbon. In 1936, the idea of building a monument to Christ the King was sent to "Apostleship of Prayer", which warmly welcomed. To be National Monument needed the approval and cooperation of all Portuguese bishops. This awareness is achieved Bishops, being officially proclaimed on Collective Lenten Pastoral of 1937.
