English: Thought the Victorian chimneys bracketing the view of Westminster and the London Eye made for an interesting composition. I hope you do too.
This is the highest point in London which is why it has the BBC Transmitter mast in the middle of the park. The Wikipedia link does a good job explaining the history of the area and the park if you are interested. My big question is how on earth a concrete, metal and glass structure managed to be razed to the ground by a fire in 1936. The Palace had originally been built in Hyde Park for the Great Exhibition in 1851 and was moved to the park built especially for it in 1854. It survived 82 years before disaster struck. Sadly for all concerned, the park seems to have fallen from public attention and is hardly ever mentioned. |
