Summary[edit]

Description

The two small marble bases, on top of which the housings for three stones with an uncertain function are still visible, probably aniconic depictions of divinities, were found in the sea together with an altar in 1754. The front bears the same text: DVSARI SACRVM (sacred to the Dusares); while the rear, which has been left rough, indicates the bases were intended to be rested against the walls of a temple. The ritual functions of the bases are not clear. The Nabataeans are known to have worshipped their gods preferably in the form of stele or spiritual repositories of various shapes and dimensions, at times with only a few anthropomorphic features. The lack of direct comparisons for this type of monument in Arabia makes comprehension difficult.
