Description
English: A Diwali ‘mela‘ was held at naval base, Kochi on 28 October 2016 kicking off the festivities for Diwali 2016. The mela which went on till 10 pm was inaugurated by the Station Commander, Commodore G Prakash at 4 pm and included cultural programmes besides a firecracker show. The mela was attended by the rank and file of the naval community from the senior most to the junior most along with their families and dependents totalling approximately 5000. Diwali Mela is traditionally held at all military bases of the country on the eve of Diwali as an official start to the festival celebrations and also to provide a common ground for all personnel to meet and greet each other without the restrictions of military hierarchy.
