English: A U.S. Navy Curtiss SB2C-3 Helldiver of Bombing Squadron 18 (VB-18) in flight over Task Group 38.2 (TG 38.2) during the Battle of the Sibuyan Sea on 24 October 1944. The photo was taken by Richard Shipman, a photographer from the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CV-11), from the back seat of a SB2C of VB-18. Aircraft from VB-18 attacked the Japanese battleships Yamato and Musashi at around 1030 hrs. The following ships are visible: Intrepid and the light aircraft carriers USS Independence (CVL-22) and USS Cabot (CVL-28). To port and ahead of Intrepid are the battleships USS Iowa (BB-61) and USS New Jersey (BB-62). |
