Description
Deutsch: Naturdenkmal Signalbaum (Schutzgebiets-Nr.84150920039) bei Holzelfingen, einem Ortsteil von Lichtenstein (Württemberg). Der markante Baum steht weithin sichtbar auf einem Höhenrücken. Seine früher noch eindeutigere Solitärstellung hat unter der nahe stehenden Fichtenaufforstung optisch etwas gelitten, dennoch ist unverkennbar, dass es sich hier um einen außergewöhnlich alten und starken Baum handelt, wenngleich ihm auch aufgrund der Witterungseinflüsse kein hoher Wuchs vergönnt war. Der Baum hat mittlerweile durch einen Stammbruch seine ostseitige Kronenhälfte verloren. Der Kronenansatz liegt bei ca. 2,5 m Höhe. Der Stamm ist auf der gesamten Länge hohl und morsch. Trotz des hohen Alters ist der Baum jedoch noch vital. Auf der Bruchseite versucht er durch Ständer und jüngere Austriebe eine Sekundärkrone zu bilden. Seine eigenartige Ausformung ist auch durch Beweidung geprägt. Der ca. 150 Jahre alte Baum ist ein Zeugnis der seit langem praktizierten Weidenutzung. Frei stehende alte Mehlbeeren sind im Naturraum sehr selten anzutreffen.
