Description

This Helicopter was attending to training sessions at the artificial <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sludgeulper/3122236020/">Rennschlitten- und Bobbahn</a> which was a <a href="http://www.bobbahn-altenberg.de/bobbahn_altenberg/bobbahn_vorstellung.php" rel="nofollow">specially built all-year toboggan and luge course</a>. It was actually nearer to the high altitude resort of Oberbärenburg. Information about the course in English <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altenberg_bobsleigh,_luge,_and_skeleton_track" rel="nofollow">her</a>e A Romanian Bob bahner had recently been badly injured in a crash there and subsequently died from his injuries. The NVA Helicopter Crew are wearing particularly fine shoes. The hubschrauber is an MI-8 (thanks below to @fotoparceiros for confirmation) of the <a href="http://home.snafu.de/veith/index.html" rel="nofollow">Luftstreitkräfte der NVA</a>, the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_German_Air_Force" rel="nofollow">Air Forces of the East German People's Army</a>. It apparently belonged to the group Transporthubschraubergeschwader 34 THG-34 of the NVA based at Brandenburg-Briest.

<a href="http://www.flugzeugforum.de/forum/showthread.php?p=711607" rel="nofollow">This site</a> provides a construction number 10540 for this 1975 Mil MI-8, no 924 in the NVA, and states that it was dumped at Hoyerswerda. Similar craft no 927 is in the Luftwaffenmuseum Berlin-Gatow.

According to a <a href="http://209.85.229.132/search?q=cache:1O5Bnt6rRfcJ:www.flugzeugforum.de/forum/showthread.php?p=258988+" rel="nofollow">thread</a> ,924 became 23+10 in the unified German Luftwaffe and flew with the LTG 65 (Lufttransportgruppe) until 1994.
