Deutsch: Wappen der "Stadt Gronau (Westf.) von 1937-1981: „In Grün, geteilt durch einen rechtsschrägen breiten goldenen (gelben) Wellenbalken, darin ein roter schwarzbewehrter Schwan.“
Der Schwan deutet auf die frühere Zugehörigkeit Gronaus zur Herrschaft der Edelherren zu Steinfurt hin. Der Wellenbalken stellt die Lage an der Dinkel dar. Die Farbe grün weist auf die Bezeichnung des alten Gronau als „Grüne Aue“ hin. Gold und Rot entstammen dem Wappen des Bistums Münster. 1699 erkennt Gronau die münsterische Landeshoheit an.
English: The arms were granted on July 19, 1937. The green field is canting (Gronau comes from Grüne Aue, or green field). The wavy bend symbolises the Dinkel river that runs through the city. The swan is derived from the arms of the Lords of Steinfurt, as the city historically was a possession of the Lords of Steinfurt until 1699. The gold and red colours are derived from the arms of Münster, as the city was acquired by the Bishops of Münster in 1699. |
