English: The Lüneburg coat of arms shows a castle with three towers and battlements on a red background, the blue roofs each ending in a golden knob. In the red gate opening with its portcullis stands an upright, red-tongued and red-armoured blue lion in a golden shield sprinkled with red hearts.
The city wall with towers appears in numerous city coats of arms and symbolises the defensive nature of the city and its sovereignty. The lion with the hearts is taken from the coat of arms of the Principality of Lüneburg and symbolises the Hanseatic city's affiliation to this principality.
