Deutsch: Die Hauptsatzung gibt keine Blasonierung: „Das Wappen der Stadt Greven zeigt die Farben Blau und Silber.“ Die korrekte Blasonierung muss heißen: „In Blau ein einmastiges silbernes (weißes) Segelboot.“ Die Stadt Greven führt Wappen und Flagge, die ihr durch Erlass des Innenministers des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen vom 06.03.1950 verliehen worden. Nach Zusammenlegung der drei Gemeinden Greven rechts der Ems, Greven links der Ems und Greven Dorf, einigte man sich auf eine sogenannte "Pünte" als Wappensymbol. Das Wappen erinnert an den Anfang der Püntenschifffahrt im Hochmittelalter. Greven war lange Zeit der Endpunkt der Schifffahrt auf der Ems. Das Wappen wurde vom Heraldiker Waldemar Mallek entworfen.
English: „Azure, a single-masted sailing boat Argent.“ The arms were granted on March 6, 1950. The arms show a sailing boat, or Pünte, and was chosen as a symbol for the historical sailing and shipping on the Ems river. Greven was a center of these activities, and also dependent on it, until the middle of the 19th century.
