Summary[edit]

Description

Some of Motown's biggest stars recall the beginnings of the famous music label 60 years ago as they speak to University of Texas at Austin students and community leaders at the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History at UT on Wednesday, April 10, 2019. The educational panel is part of The Summit on Race in America at the LBJ Presidential Library. The musicians appear in conjunction with the LBJ Library’s new exhibit, Motown: The Sound of Young America, open April 13, 2019 through January 26, 2020.

Panelists include: Mary Wilson, founding member of The Supremes, left; Duke Fakir, founding member of The Four Tops; right; and Claudette Robinson, member of The Miracles, not shown. They discuss how Motown forever changed American music, business, and perceptions of African-Americans.

The Summit on Race in America runs from April 8-April 10 at the LBJ Library.
