“De Golven” is een creatie van de Nieuwpoortse kunstenaar Roland Patyn. Het werd ontworpen en geselecteerd voor de tentoonstelling “Monumentale sculpturen” met als thema “De elementen”, in 1999 georganiseerd door de gemeente Middelkerke. De stad Nieuwpoort kocht het aan in mei 2007. De losse vormen stellen twee golven voor. In hun samenspel weerspiegelen ze de oneindige wendbaarheid en beweeglijkheid van de zee.
