Description
English: Damri Patthamasiri (1906–1962 CE), a Thai journalist.
  • Being the third child of a Thai nobleman, Phra Wisetkonpakit (Rat Patthamasiri), and his wife, Nang Wisetkonpakit (Chiam). Born on Monday, 22 October 2449 BE (1906 CE), at a government residence in the Krung Kao Prefectural School (later the location of Ayutthayanusorn School, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province).
  • Graduated from the Krung Kao Prefectural Model School (present-day Ayutthaya Wittayalai School), Wat Bowon Niwet School, Wat Benchamabophit School, Wat Thep Siri School, and the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, respectively.
  • Became a government official at the City Planning Division, Public Health Department, Ministry of Interior, after graduation from the university in 2469 BE (1926/27 CE). Resigned in 2475 BE (1932/33 CE) and became a full-time journalist.
    • Founded the following newspapers and journals: Prachachat, Krungthep Warasap, Prachathippatai, Seri Rat, and Thai.
    • Also served as editor-in-chief for the said newspapers and journals, in addition to the newspapers Thai Mai and Si Krung.
    • Also worked for the journals Sayam Rat Sapda Wichan and Sapda San.
  • Employed the following pennames: "Son Lek", "Ri Wai Tho", "Radical", "Pha Thai", "Nai Damri", and "Ro Rattananiwat".
  • Became a member of the Free Thai Movement which acted against the Japanese in Thailand during the Second World War. Arrested and convicted of insurrection and sentenced to life imprisonment by a Thai military court. Granted amnesty by the Thai government after the Japanese surrender.
  • Wives:
    1. Sutchai Khupkhitaphan, with whom he had 3 children.
    2. Mom Ratchawong Sisoma Suksawat, with whom he had 4 children.
    3. Bunriap Arunsak, with whom he had no biological child but adopted a child.
  • Died on Thursday, 22 March 2505 BE (1962 CE), at Sutthisan Ronnakon Building, Phramongkutklao Hospital, due to malaria, emphysema, and heart disease.

  • สำเร็จการศึกษาจากโรงเรียนตัวอย่างประจำมณฑลกรุงเก่า (ปัจจุบัน คือ โรงเรียนอยุธยาวิทยาลัย), โรงเรียนวัดบวรนิเวศ, โรงเรียนวัดเบญจมบพิตร, โรงเรียนวัดเทพศิรินทร์, คณะวิศวกรรมศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย
  • เรียนจบจุฬาฯ เมื่อ พ.ศ. ๒๔๖๙ แล้ว รับราชการในกองวางผังเมือง กรมสาธารณสุข กระทรวงมหาดไทย จน พ.ศ. ๒๔๗๕ ลาออกมาทำงานหนังสือพิมพ์
    • เป็นผู้ก่อตั้งหนังสือพิมพ์และวารสาร ประชาชาติ, กรุงเทพฯ วารศัพท์, ประชาธิปไตย, เสรีราษฎร์, และ ไท
    • เป็นบรรณาธิการหนังสือพิมพ์และวารสารดังกล่าว รวมถึงหนังสือพิมพ์ ไทยใหม่ และ ศรีกรุง
    • เป็นนักเขียนลงวารสาร สยามรัฐสัปดาห์วิจารณ์ และ สัปดาห์สาร
  • ใช้นามปากกา "ศรเหล็ก", "รีไว้ทอ", "Radical", "ผาไท", "นายดำริห์", และ "ร. รัตนนิวาต"
  • เป็นสมาชิกเสรีไทยซึ่งต่อต้านญี่ปุ่นในสงครามโลกครั้งที่ ๒ ถูกจับกุมและถูกศาลทหารพิพากษาจำคุกตลอดชีวิตฐานเป็นกบฏ แต่เมื่อญี่ปุ่นแพ้สงคราม จึงได้รับนิรโทษกรรม
