Deutsch: Das Grab des Lederfabrikanten August Söhlmann auf dem St.-Nicolai-Kirchhof in Hannover. In dem Aquarell von 1835 zeigt Rudolf Wiegmann seinen eigenen klassizistischen Entwurf für den Überbau des Grabgewölbes, der unter seiner Aufsicht gebaut wurde. Das Aquarell vermittelt die romantische Auffassung vom Friedhof als einem Ort, an dem sich der Mensch des nahenden Todes bewusst wird (Memento Mori). Die Grabstelle besteht 2013 nicht mehr. Das Aquarell wurde von Bernhard Hausmann (1784-1873) für seine Sammlung „Andenken meiner Zeitgenossen“ angekauft. Bernhard Hausmann hatte in einer Geschäftsbeziehung mit August Söhlmann gestanden. 1823 wurden die Gebrüder Söhlmann mit vier Betrieben im Adressbuch von Hannover erwähnt. Das Stammhaus der Brüder Söhlmann befand sich in der Altstadt in Hannover. August Söhlmann gab den Betrieb in der Altstadt auf und kaufte von Bernhard Hausmann dessen 1796 gegründete "Lohgerberei Hausmann". Ab 1833 entstand aus der Lohgerberei August Söhlmann die August Söhlmann Lederfabrik G.m.b.H. an der Chausseestraße 100 (ab 1855 umbenannt in Deisterstraße 1 p ). 1833 besaß August Söhlmann die erste Dampfmaschine im Königreich Hannover. In der Lederfabrik im viergeschossigen Gebäude an der Lindener Ihmebrücke betrieb die Dampfmaschine die Borkenmühle und die Lederwalke. Bald danach starb August Söhlmann. |
