Laid To His Rest. Impressive Ceremonies at the Interment of Major Peloubet. The funeral of Major David A. Peloubet, who died at his late residence on North street last Wednesday morning after a short illness, was held yesterday afternoon at three o’clock from Simpson M.E. Church, Central avenue. The church was crowded. In addition to well known citizens there were members of the G.A.R. present, who attended the services to pay their last tribute of respect to their departed comrade. The Van Houten, Zabriskie and Wilson Posts, and the Wilson drum and fife corps attended in full uniform. The drum and fife corps played funeral dirges on their way to the church and from the church to the grave. Over the grave the members of the Grand Army posts fired a volley as the last shovel full of earth was heaped upon upon the remains of all that was left of a brave soldier and a good citizen. The services at the church were simple but impressive. They were conducted by the Rev. Dr. Halleron, who eulogized the dead soldier. The preacher mentioned the number of battles in which Mr. Peloubet had fought during the Civil War, and how he rose from the ranks on account of his excellent record as a fighter. Following Dr. Halleron, Register George B. Fielder made a few remarks in which they also eulogized their late companion. The remains were interred in the Old Jersey City Cemetery.
