Summary
[edit]DescriptionDavid Shentow - Photo by Floralove Katz.jpg |
English: Shentow holds a Jewish Star of David sewn by his father: in all Nazi-controlled states, Jews were forced to wear these identifiers that made them easy targets for torment, violent abuse, and deportations. The number "72585" was tattooed on his left arm the day he arrived in the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp. Civilians were stripped of their names, their identities; roll-call was by these numbers. (Photo by Floralove Katz) |
