Nederlands: De kisten met sinaasappels staan opgestapeld en klaar voor de export
Description
Nederlands: Aangemoedigd door de overvloedige sinaasappel-oogst van 1931, werd een oud plan (van 1924) uit de kast gehaald om in 1932 sinaasappels te exporteren naar Nederland. Het sorteren vond plaats in een loods in de Cultuurtuin. Verpakken en keuren van de sinaasappels werd gedaan door de meisjes van de R.K. hoedenvlechtschool, "ze zijn gewend aan zorgvuldig en accuraat werken en kunnen ten allen tijde en onmiddellijk worden opgeroepen". De directrice van de school, Soeur Gonzales, hield toezicht. In totaal werden er 1500 exportkisten (Californisch model) getimmerd van possentriehout. "De exportkisten werden op de kopstukken met 'Suriname' en op de zijwanden met 'Landbouwproefstation' gemerkt. (bron: G. Stahel en J.A.
