| Description |
English: The Delaware Family YMCA, 2564 Delaware Avenue at Avery Avenue, Buffalo, New York, December 2021. Built in 1927 to a design by the local architecture firm of Hudson & Hudson, this handsome two-story edifice is a good representative example of the sort of modestly ornate Neoclassical architecture that was commonly used for civic and institutional buildings around the time of its construction. As tends to be the case, the highest expressions of Classical form occur on and around the entrance, where we see a quartet of engaged Ionic columns interspersed between the second-floor windows and above a rusticated stone framing surrounding the arched entrance and the two first-floor windows that flank it. The light-colored stone utilized here, on the splayed lintels above the windows, and in the quoins at the corners of the building make for a striking contrast with the dark brick of the façade. |
