Summary[edit]
DescriptionDell mini 12 vs Acer Aspire One (3409774781).jpg |
Two netbooks, but very different ones. The Acer is much smaller than the Dell, but better equipped: 1.6 vs 1.33GHz, 160 vs. 40GB HDD. The advantage of the mini 12 is its screen size of 1280x800 compared to 1024x600. Both are running heavily adapted versions of popular Linux distributions. Dell's is based on Ubuntu 8.04, but they chose the "lpia" variant and restrict its updates to special Dell repositories. The graphics chip (Intel GMA 500 "Poulsbo") is lacking a suitable driver in any other Linux distro other than the one that comes with the machine. Acer's is based on Fedora Core 8, but is even more crippled. I sold the Acer, because screen real estate is more important to me. |
