Deutsch: Spindelhemmung einer Kirchturmuhr
English: Verge escapement in a tower clock. The verge escapement, the first mechanical escapement, was used in tower clocks from its invention around 1300 to around 1700, when it was replaced by the anchor escapement. This example was used to swing a pendulum. The crown wheel is oriented with its axis vertical, and the horizontal verge rod suspended above it was attached to the pendulum. |
