Description
Deutsch: Die DLR-Stereokamera HRSC (High Resolution Stereo Camera) auf der ESA-Raumsonde Mars Express nimmt mit ihren neun quer zur Flugrichtung angeordneten Sensoren die Marsoberfläche unter verschiedenen Winkeln und mit vier Farbkanälen auf. Aus den vier schräg blickenden Stereokanälen und dem senkrecht auf den Mars gerichteten Nadirkanal berechnen Wissenschaftlerteams am DLR-Institut für Planetenforschung und der Freien Universität Berlin digitale Geländemodelle, die jedem Bildpunkt eine Höheninformation zuordnen. Aus der Farbskala rechts oben im Bild gehen die Höhenunterschiede in der Region hervor: Die flachen Bergkuppen im Süden und Osten (Norden ist rechts im Bild) erheben sich zwischen 1500 und 2000 Meter über die türkisfarbenen Senken im Westen am oberen Bildrand. Zwischen den Erhebungen der Bergkette von Eumenides Dorsum erkennt man das tieferliegende Gebiet mit seinen Jardangs, Windgassen und Blowouts, die durch langanhaltende Winderosion entstanden sind.
