A group of temples moved because of the Srisailam dam projects in the 1950s and 1960s

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Nehru, the first prime minister of India, announced the Srisailam dam project. To preserve temples and monuments affected by the flooding many Krishna valley sites, they were ordered to be relocated.

A group od Shaiva temples were among them and they were relocated in this complex.

The reconstructed temple retained the stone blocks, statues and artwork, but added modern floor and in several cases superstructure. The old and new additions can be identified: the newly added structures with painted over or finished in a different style.

The historic temples had a phamsana-style shikhara or Dravida superstructure, which has been retained in the relocated temples. Some artwork show the mutilation they suffered after the 13th-centuries (see inscriptions at this complex).
