Description
English: In the first two centuries AD the perfume use by high class Roman women reached a peak.

Shown here are

  • Rhodinium – Otto of Rose Upper class Roman women had an insatiable desire for silk and rare perfume. At the time of the Emperor Augustus, the perfume "Rhodinium", made from the roses of Phestum, was so sold for its weight in gold.
  • Viola – Violet
  • Iasminium Jasmine
  • Melinum Qince flower

The perfume bottles (Ungnentaria) used by the Romans were made of alabaster, onyx or glass, The forms of bottles, cases, bowls, flagons shown here are simple but refined decorative arts.Fashion played a part in the structural form of the containers but so did class distinction.
