| Description |
English: Approaching Donner Pass from the east, on U.S. 40 near the Califonria-Nevada border. The interstate highway I-80 had not been built in this area in 1961, The top of the pass is 7,085 ft (2,160 m). The first motor road over Donner Pass was part of the Lincoln Highway, the first transcontinental highway in the U.S. The entire highway was originally completed in 1913.
That is my 1960 Volkswagen, It was almost white, but the brochures called it "arctic blue" (aktisblau). The man by my VW rode with me from New Jersey to Califonria and shared expenses on the trip. I did all of the driving. This photo is geotagged with the approximate location, which may be in Nevada rather than California. |
