Summary[edit]

Description
English: c/n 6567. US Navy Bureau Number 37973. The D-558 stage 2 was the first aircraft type to break Mach-2 (twice the speed of sound), in the hands of Scott Crossfield on 20th November 1953. The actual record breaking Skyrocket was the second of the three aircraft built, ‘NACA144’, and is preserved in the NASM, Washington DC. This is the first of the three and completed 123 flights. It is now on display at Planes of Fame Air Museum, Chino, California, USA. 20th September 2019
