English: This is the most conventional of the Clan Robertson tartans, sometimes (uncommonly) also called hunting Douglas. It is also used by the Royal Gurkha Rifles (and earlier by 7th Gurkha Rifles, before their amalgamation into RGR). Variants of this tartan exist (with some clan but not regimental use), including one in which the dark blue is replaced by black [1], one with only a single blue hue (normal tartan blue instead of dark and Balmoral/azure blue) [2]; and one with brown instead of green [3]. The clan also has several other unrelated tartans associated with it [4].

This image is exactly full-sett, and can tile horizontally and vertically. Scottish Register of Tartans notes [5] on this sett: "Also known as Wilsons' No. 148. This is the accepted Douglas Clan/Family tartan. This Douglas tartan first appeared in Wilsons' 1819 list [the Key Pattern Book] as no. 184, and the name 'Douglas' was certainly attached to it by 1880 when it appeared in Clans Originaux as Douglas Hunting. Threadcount confirmed by DC Stewart 'Setts of the Scottish Tartans' (Edinburgh, 1950)." [Note the 148 and 184 contradiction.]

This is a usual, mirroring tartan. Thread count, doubled here to prevent a jagged appearance, (in "/" notation): /K8 BB8 G32 DB32 W4/ (or in boldfacing notation: K8 BB8 G32 DB32 W4), where BB = Balmoral blue, and DB = dark blue. SRT's database calls for azure blue, but this is too bright/pale, and all the major tartan weavers use a richer shade, to which Balmoral blue seems about the best average.
