English: Dr. Martha Preciado Contreras (1965-2003) was a Chicana mathematician who received her PhD at the University of California, Riverside in 1993 under the supervision of Victor Lenard Shapiro. She later became a faculty member at Cornell University. The title of her dissertation was: "Resonance and double resonance for quasilinear elliptic higher order partial differential equations between the first and second eigenvalues". Charles "Chuck" Ray Murillo (1955-2021) of San Bernardino, California was a Chicano musician (bass player), poet and English professor at San Bernardino Valley College. He received a master's degree from California State University, San Bernardino in 2004 for a thesis entitled: "The other within the other: Chicana/o literature, composition theory, and the new mestizaje". His poem "Pobre Vecino" was published in The Pacific Review: A Magazine of Poetry and Prose in 1987.
