Jean Pappaduca, aussi orthographié Pappa-Duca, Pappa-Douca ou Pappadoukas, fit ses études de médecine en Allemagne, avant de retourner à Constantinople pour y exercer sa profession. Il officia pendant longtemps auprès de l'ambassade de Perse et fut par ailleurs membre de la Société médicale grecque de Constantinople et de la Société impériale de médecine. Issu d'une famille patricienne grecque de la capitale, il était le fils de Constantin Pappa-Duca, négociant qui habitait sur l'avenue Istiklal, face au Palais de Hollande, et de Hélène Beaufort, d'origine française. Il épousa Anna Kanellou - ou Kanellos - (1850-1928), fille de Jean Kanellou (1810-1882) et de Maria Kanellou (1825-1864), tous deux issus d'antiques familles de l'aristocratie byzantine phanariote. |
