Summary[edit]
DescriptionDurga Puja festival.jpg |
English: Durga Puja is the biggest and grandest festival of Bengalis. It commemorates the victory of good over evil and pays homage to Goddess Durga, who is revered as the personification of strength and power. Durga Puja is one of the most important festivals of India.
There is an idea that this Durga Puja was celebrated since the Mahabharata era. It is claimed that the Durga Puja ceremony started when Lord Rama worshiped the goddess to get strength from her to fight against Ravana. Celebrations begin with Mahalaya when devotees ask Goddess Durga to visit the earth. The ceremony is completed with Maha Aarti on the Navami and the next day, the idol of the goddess is immersed in water.
