Description
English: Map of percentage of people with East Asian* ancestry, largelly based on genome analyses and ethno-linguistic classification.
  • The very concept of "East Asian peoples" is contested. "East Asian" itself is not a geographical or ethnic accurate term, given the fact that the borders between various regions of Asia are historical, cultural and political more than physical, and that people originating from ancient or modern East Asians may not identify as such.
  • This is NOT a map of the "Mongoloid" race, just an "East Asian ancestry" map, showing the percentage derived from ancient and modern East Asians, and not necessarily similar to contemporary East Asians of today (e.g. Chinese, Korean etc.).
  • To sum it up all, generally conservative criteria are taken: the geographical criterion (origin or descent from ancient or modern East Asians). Next to this, genome analyses to get more detail about the specific frequency, of alleles associated or common among proper East Asians, as such this frequency does not infer a distinct genetic ancestry but the frequency of alleles common among various East Asian populations (Han, Japanese, Amis, Dai, etc.).
