| Description |
English: The first type of carbon filament incandescent light bulb manufactured by Thomas Edison around 1880. The source says this was the type used in Edison's first historic commercial installation in the Hinds, Ketcham factory in New York in December 1880. The carbon filament, now burnt out, was held in tiny German silver clips. It consumed 0.94 amps at 55 VDC or 52 W and produced 8 candlepower, for an efficiency of 6.46 candlepower/watt. It's life was "very short" and replacements were very expensive; $5 to $10. Of this early type bulb, the source says this is one of only 3 remaining. |
