Summary[edit]

Description
English: A view of Mecca from a lavishly illuminated copy of al-Jazuli's Dala'il al-Khayrat, dated 1265 AH (1848-9 AD) from Turkey. This image is cropped from the media file from the Khalili Collections uploaded by User:MartinPoulter (KC WIR) on 28 July 2021, 13:33.

From the Khalili Collections description: "The lavish illumination of this copy of al-Jazuli’s pious text includes headpieces; tail-pieces; and irregularly-shaped medallions in the margins. In addition, a double spread (folios 16b–17a) bears depictions of the Holy Sanctuary at Mecca and the Prophet’s mosque at Medina."

This version of the image has been cropped to the image of Mecca, and certain quality elements have been enhanced, including white balance, saturation, and sharpness. The image has also been extended with a colored mat to facilitate printing and framing.

The similarly cropped image of Medina is at: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Edited-Khalili_Collection_Hajj_and_Arts_of_Pilgrimage_mss_0276_fol_16b-17a-illustration_of_Medina_dated_1265_AH_(1848-9_AD)ccbysa3.0.jpg
