Grave goods from the settlement area of Biesdorf
The Elbe Germanic settlement of Biesdorf is at present the largest investigated northern German site for finds from the pre-Roman Iron Age as well as the imperial Roman and migration eras, yielding great quantities of ceramics from the earliest Bronze Age to the developed later Roman imperial era (9th century B.C. to the 2nd century A.D.). A number of finds from the late Roman imperial era and early migration age, in part of Roman origin, evidence the far-flung connections of the Elbe Germanic population that settled here. While the locale Berlin-Biesdorf Habichtshorst cannot be counted among Lombard sites, it is an exemplary instance of the sort of continuous settlement over a span of nearly a millennium possible in regions with favorable natural conditions.
