Smithsonian SIRIS Control Number: IAS NY000650, with description: "Two electroliers, or street lamps, flank the entrance to a building. They have the same design except the one depicts children studying; the other, children relaxing after play. Both electroliers are topped by a 20 inch-high, hexagonal lamp, encircled by smaller dome-shaped lights. Below each light is an owl, holding a garland of flowers in its beak. The children appear at the base of the shaft, with lion's heads below them. On the right lamp, nine children are seen studying, dressed in school clothes. They are seen reading, writing, counting, examining a globe and holding a violin. On the left lamp, the children holding various toys including: a doll, a football, a hoop, a small boat, a teddy bear, a baseball bat and glove, a tennis racket and ball, and roller skates. Both lamps have a brown patina." This artwork is in the public domain because first published in the United States before 1923.
