Elephant ivory (public display, Warther Museum, Dover, Ohio, USA) Ivory is a type of biogenic gem. It is composed of hydrous calcium phosphate-carbonate and comes from the tusks of certain mammals, such as elephants and hippos. Paleoivory is derived from fossil mammoth tusks.
