Summary[edit]

Description
English: The Judith S. Chick Memorial Bridge carries cyclists and pedestrians over Ellicott Creek near the east end of the Ellicott Creek Trailway in Amherst, New York. Chick (1942-2015) made a name for herself in the wake of a disastrous flood in February 1985 as founder of Concerned Citizens for Ellicott Creek Flood Control, an effort that culminated in a trip to Washington, D.C. to personally urge Congress to pass the namesake legislation. The completion of the project in 1988 opened the doors to the construction of the 4.4-mile original portion of the Trailway, which extends in a northwesterly direction roughly parallel to Ellicott Creek (hence its name) from Ellicott Creek Trailway Park on North Forest Road, passing through the North Campus of the University at Buffalo and the sprawling Audubon Industrial Park before ending at Ellicott Creek Park in nearby Tonawanda. A southward extension of the path, leading to the Audubon Recreation Complex on Amherst Manor Road, added 2.2 miles to the total length when it opened in May 2000.
