Description
English: This deep image of the area of sky around the elliptical galaxy NGC 5018 offers a spectacular view of its tenuous streams of stars and gas. These delicate features are hallmarks of galactic interactions, and provide vital clues to the structure and dynamics of early-type galaxies.
Italiano: Immagine delle galassie interagenti NGC 5018 e NGC 5022 ripresa con il VLT Survey Telescope. La stella al centro dell'immagine è HD 114746. La galassia ellittica in basso a sinistra è NGC 5018, alla cui sinistra è presente NGC 5022. In prossimità dell'angolo superiore destro dell'immagine è presente la galassia NGC 5006.
