Summary[edit]

Description

From the sculptor’s plaque:

“Texas history is rich in myth and folklore. According to legend, Emily Morgan aided General Sam Houston by distracting General Santa Ana with her charms while a surprise attack on the Mexican Army took place at the San Jacinto Battleground on April 21, 1836. The battle that victorious day resulted in Texas’ Independence from Mexico. Emily was later immortalized in the song as The Yellow Rose of Texas.

The Republic of Texas was annexed to the United States as the 28th state on December 29, 1845.
