Français : Le peintre s’est attaqué ici à un sujet traditionnel de la peinture d’histoire tiré de l’Énéide de Virgile : lors de la guerre de Troie, Énée, un des chefs troyens fuit la ville de Troie que les Grecs cherchent à détruire en l’incendiant. Il porte sur ses épaules son père Anchise, accompagné de son fils Ascagne. Sa femme, Créüse, à gauche, reste en tant que fille de Priam, roi de Troie. Celle-ci tend à Énée les Pénates, statuettes représentant les dieux du foyer et de la famille, qu’elle confie à ses soins. Le traitement du sujet est caractéristique du mouvement baroque dont Van Loo est un des représentants français les plus remarquables.
