Español: Energía entrante (radiación solar) y saliente (radiación terrestre). El área subtendida coincide en ambas curvas (en la medida en que entrada y salida están equilibradas). Las circulaciones atmosférica y oceánica trasladan energía en dirección a los polos de manera que la energía disponible (y emitida) es muy semejante en todas las latitudes.
