Summary
[edit]DescriptionEngorda Espiritu Santo San Jose.jpeg |
English: Valle de la Engorda (a little over 2,500m[1], 2,600m according to John Biggar, ISBN 0-9536087-2-7, 221), as seen from the end of the track round the Morro Negro ridge, looking east.
The valley is dominated by, from left to right (north to south), Volcán Espíritu Santo (5,692m) and Volcán San José (5,856m). Refugio Plantat (3,130m) is hidden from view by the ridge leading to Josecito, the comparatively nearby peak to the right (approximately 3,270m). Also visible are the Quebrada Norte and, albeit less clearly, the Quebrada Sur, coming down from San José. Immediately to the west of the Engorda Valley is the Parque Nacional El Morado. The photo was taken just days after the massive 2010 Chile earthquake. |

Image title | Valle de la Engorda (approx. 2510m), as seen from the end of the track round the Morro Negro ridge, looking east, with Espiritu Santo (5692m) and San Jose (5856m) in the background. To the right and more in the foreground, Josecito (approx. 3270m) is visible. Behind its ridge, and therefore hidden from view, lies the Refugio Plantat (3130m). The two streams coming down from San Jose are the Quebrada Norte to the left, and carrying significantly less water, the Quebrada Sur to the right. Photo by Tijs Michels, March 6, 2010. |
