DescriptionEntry to Bairro Estrella D'Ouro.jpg | In the 19th and early 20th century, industrial firms obtained tracks of land on the hills around the old town to build factories. The norm back then was to build the factory, the factory owner's home and housing for staff all in one large compound. While the factories are almost all long gone now (they've moved farther out of town), the city remains dotted by privately owned neighborhoods marked with signs warning outsiders to stay out. Many, like this one for the Star Company, still boast the original company house at the entrance. | ||
